The 19th ASEAN Summit and related summits will be held at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC) Bali, from November 14 -19, 2011 while its side events will be held at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC) from 16 to 19 November 16 -19, 2011.

Earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter Scale rocked Bali this morning. The center of the quake was at 9.89 degrees southern latitude and 114.53 degrees east longitude. It coordinates are located in 143 kms southwest of Nusa Dua, Bali with the depth of the earthquake 10 kilometers.

According to Daryono, earthquake researchers from the Institute for Meteorology and Geophysics of Denpasar, based on the characteristics of the seismicity and tectonics, and supported by the characteristics of existing geophysical data, then the source of the earthquake that affects Bali, and the surrounding area can be divided into two parts, namely the subduction zone in the south of  Bali and arc fault in the northern parts of Bali.

The earthquake that occurred in the Bali subduction zone generally separated into two groups, namely the mega thrust earthquake is an earthquake caused by shallow intrusion and earthquakes Benioff, which is due to infiltration in the earthquake. Megathrust zone is the shallow part of a subduction zone that has a sloping angle dive, whereas the Benioff zone is the inside of the subduction zone that has a steep dive angle. (more…)

1. Star Hotels down 9,05 Pct

Room Occupancy Rate (ROR) star hotels in Bali in August 2011 reached an average of 62.69 percent, down 9.05 points compared to July 2011 ROR which amounted to 71.74 percent. ROR is the highest in the Badung regency that is equal to 64.90 percent and lowest in Buleleng regency of 29.73 percent.

Sanur Village Festival (SVF) will be held for the sixth time from the 19th to the 23rd of November 2011 located at Matahari Terbit Beach in Sanur. The time and larger location of this event was deliberately chosen to accommodate the collaboration of National Flora Week 2011 which will merge with the festival this year. National Flora Week is both a national- and international-scale activity which is the initiative of the Indonesian Department of Agriculture that has been handed over to Denpasar City Government to organize. On display at this event will be a range of agricultural products, including all kinds of vegetables, flowers, fruits and herbal medicines.

According to the classification of hotels in June 2011, the occupancy rate of four-star hotel room for 62.82 percent is the highest compared ROR another hotel class. ROR  lowest occurred in the hotels four-star who reached 62.82 percent.

The average length of stay of foreigners and Indonesian in the starred hotels in Bali in June 2011 reaching 3.39 days. This figure rose 0.24 points compared with the average length of stay guests in May 2011 which reached 3.15 today.

Overall, the average length of stay of foreigners in June 2011 for 3.46 days, longer than the length of stay of Indonesia that had been 3.23 days. to district / city, a state where the average length of stay of foreign guest for longer than Indonesia occurred in Tabanan, Gianyar, Karangasem, Buleleng, and Denpasar.

According to the district / city, recorded the average length of stay of the highest in June 2011 happening in the city of Denpasar for 3.05 days and the lowest occurred in the Karangasem regency during 2.30 days.

Rising raw materials prices continue to drive the price of steel with steelmakers battling ever thinning margins. The rise of steel futures, iron ore derivatives, and moves towards a similar market in metallurgical coal, mean the ‘paper’ steel mill is not far away. This conference will include an essential ‘how to’ session on risk management strategies for all market participants.

The conference will feature presentations by leading players in iron ore, metallurgical coal, coke, scrap and alloys, as well as analysts and government officials. It will highlight emerging regions, such as Mongolia and Africa, as well as host country Indonesia’s growing role as a producer of steel making raw materials.

 Number of foreign tourists who visited Bali in June 2011 reached 245 652 people. This figure increased by 7.72 percent compared with the same month a year earlier. When compared with May 2011, the number of them has increased by 17.50 percent, most of the foreign tourists coming to Bali through the airport (99.84%) through sea ports while only 0.16 percent.

Compared with the same month a year earlier, the arrival tourists who come through the airport increased by 8.94 percent, while compared with the situation in May 2011 this figure rose 17.44 percent. Foreign tourists who come through the sea port in June 2011 totaled 404, up to 78.76 percent compared to May 2011 and fell by 86.19 percent compared with June 2010.

By nationality, most tourists come to Bali are Australia, China,Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan with their respective percentage of 29.53 percent, 7.88 percent,6.73 percent, 6.47 percent and 5.54 percent. Table 1 presents the data of ten countries who visited Bali in June 2011.

Compared with May 2011, ten countries with the largest number of foreign tourists (Table 1), Australia, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, Britain and the United States have increased, while South Korea and France declined.
In the period January to June of 2011, most foreign tourists come to Bali were Australian tourists, China, Japan, Malaysia, and Taiwan occupies the largest number, with the percentage of each amounting to 26.73 percent, 8.16 percent, 6, 80 percent, 6.40 percent and 5.01 percent. Ten countries are presented in Table 2

Countries that experienced the largest increase in the period January – June 2011 compared with the previous year were Singapore, amounting to 34.19 percent, while, which experienced the largest decline is Japan that is equal to 26.00 percent. (08/03/2011)
